Caring Businesswoman invited to address National Conference on dementia
A Yorkshire businesswoman has been invited to speak about dementia at a national care conference later this month.
Elaine Everett, MD of Tadcaster based Motivation & Co and partner in Visual Communication Aids (vca), has been invited to address a seminar about Dementia Tools at the National Care Show in Bournemouth on 30th & 31st March.
48 year old Elaine is delighted to be asked and commented;
“Dementia is a subject that is at the heart of both my businesses and I welcome the opportunity to share my knowledge and experiences with the audience. During the seminar, I will talk about the “tools of our trade” that we use with dementia patients in our Motivation & Co mental agility and gentle exercise sessions and how vca’s specialist books and picture path-finding signage help people with dementia to communicate more easily.”
Motivation & Co is a growing 15 franchise business that was launched by Elaine in 1998 after she witnessed her grandfather’s decline in physical and mental dexterity after he moved into a care home. She resolved to improve the lives of people in care and worked with professional therapists to develop a series of evidence based, fun and interactive classes that include mental agility, gentle exercise, physiotherapy and music. The programme has been independently researched and validated by Leeds Metropolitan University.
vca improves the quality of life of people with communication challenges by providing simple, highly visual solutions using books and directional signs. The business was born when Elaine and Motivation & Co franchisee Michele Wilson witnessed the frustrations that some care home residents felt when they were unable to find their way around or communicate simple things like choosing food at mealtimes or getting dressed. vca researched the residents’ issues and concluded that they could make their lives happier by making it easier for them to communicate. They then commissioned a series of drawings to convey everyday care home situations and developed them into visual aids books and path-finding signage that can help to alleviate some of the communication problems associated with Alzheimer's.
Now in its sixth year, the Care Show is the UK’s largest and busiest older people care sector event and takes place between 10am and 4pm on 30th and 31st March at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC), Exeter Road. Entry is free if you register in advance at www.careshow.co.uk/bournemouth or call the Hotline on 0844 557 2390.
