Debbie Sorkin
Head of Business and Membership Services, National Skills Academy for Social CareDebbie is Head of New Business and Membership Services at the National Skills Academy for Social Care, which was launched in October 2009. The Academy was created by a coalition of employers in the sector to support and promote excellent training practice and learning development in adult social care in England. The Academy’s clear role is to identify and address strategic skills gaps in the sector; these were identified by the sector as leadership, management and commissioning skills, in response to the changing landscape of care provision and delivery. Debbie has a background that combines member and customer services with social care, having previously been Director of Programmes and Services at the Royal Town Planning Institute, the membership body for town and country planners in the UK, where she was responsible for services to 22,000 members and the general public. Alongside her work for the Skills Academy, Debbie is a Board member of The Camden Society, which provides services for people with learning disabilities across London; Vice-Chair of Novas Scarman Group, the national social justice charity; a Board member of East Thames Housing Group; and a member of the Third Sector Partnership Board advising the Department of Communities and Local Government on key issues affecting the sector. |
