Councillor Stephen MacLoughlin
Councillor Stephen MacLoughlin, Bournemouth Council
Along with Dorset and Poole, Bournemouth Council was involved in a national pilot on care for the elderly (‘Total Place’). It set out to show how the local health and social care economy might secure improved outcomes for older people at lower cost. Given the demographics locally, this part of the country is amongst the first to work out the implications of an increasingly large, elderly population with complex needs including dementia. Leader of Bournemouth Council, Councillor Stephen MacLoughlin. will give his perspective on what needs to change to make this aspiration a reality. The new approach will certainly need better working arrangements across public bodies, and new ways of doing business with the private and voluntary sectors. But could it also mean that we have to adjust our expectations and values as a society? |
