Promoting Adult Safeguarding In Care Homes

14 Oct 2021
Business, Compliance & Regulation Theatre
Residential and nursing homes provide care for some of the most vulnerable people in our society. The majority of homes provide high standards of care and a safe environment. However, it is well-documented that care homes may sometimes be sites of abuse and around one third of all adult safeguarding inquiries conducted under section 42 of the Care Act 2014 relate to care home residents. This talk will consider some of the challenges in ensuring that care home residents are safeguarded against not only abuse and neglect arising from the actions or inactions of individuals but also organisational abuse and neglect. It will provide an overview of NICE guideline [NG 189] ‘Safeguarding Adults in Care Homes', published in February 2021.
Speakers
Rachel Fyson, Professor of Social Work and Head of the School of Sociology & Social Policy - University of Nottingham
