Alex qualified as an OT from the University of Queensland, Australia in 1993 but has always worked in the UK, starting out in various acute hospitals with a focus on adult rehabilitation. Later a position as a head OT in a wheelchair service inspired her interest in supporting people with complex disabilities. An opportunity to manage a community rehabilitation team commenced a transition into senior leadership positions. Alex managed integrated services for adults with disabilities for over a decade in a London Borough before taking a role as a director in Essex County Council (ECC), continuing to lead and integrate health and social care teams. After having two babies Alex returned to OT and is the first Principal OT in ECC. The role has reawakened her passion for OT at a time when the disruption to people's occupations and environments calls for the best support and intervention OTs can offer.
