Diabetes management in the Frail and Elderly and the importance of CGM

Approximately 20% of older adults in the UK are living with diabetes. Managing these individuals comes with their own particular challenges. Weight loss may not be in their best interest, and often the most effective treatment is low dose basal insulin. The updated NICE guidance (NG28) now recommends that those who require assistance with the administering or monitoring of their insulin should be considered for continuous glucose monitoring. This presentation will discuss the evaluation of frailty in order adults, personalisation of glycemic targets according to the new QuOF goals, optimisation of drug therapy and the use of technology to improve outcomes for older adults with diabetes.

Speakers
David Strain, Associate Professor in Cardiometabolic Health - University of Exeter Medical School
