Caring for people with dementia can be rewarding, but it also brings challenges when behaviours change, or crises occur. The 6D approach equips staff and caregivers with practical, evidence-based skills to respond with empathy, confidence, and consistency. Embedding this approach in daily care reduces distress, hospital admissions, and antipsychotic use while supporting stable living arrangements. Dr Frances Duffy will share real-world examples showing how bite-sized training modules, care planning tools, and leadership support build workforce confidence and resilience, ensuring people with dementia live with dignity, meaningful connection, and as much independence as possible.

  • • Understand the 6D framework for responding with empathy, confidence, and consistency.
  • • Recognise how everyday practice changes can prevent crises and hospital admissions.
  • • Identify approaches that promote dignity, meaningful connection, and independence in care.
  • • Explore how 6D strengthens workforce resilience by reducing stress and improving confidence and retention.
