Welcome to FLUCare!

We are a multidisciplinary research team dedicated to improving vaccination uptake in care homes across England. With expertise spanning pharmacy, care home management, public health and behavioural science, our mission is to embed evidence-based strategies into routine care. Our work aims to transform insights into action by collaborating with care home leaders and policy makers to drive sustainable change.

FluCare was designed to increase flu vaccination rates among care home staff as the World Health Organisation recommends over 75% of care home staff should be vaccinated. However, the reality is that only 30% of care home staff were vaccinated against flu in 2020/21. The team put together an intervention package to make it easier for care home staff to get vaccinated and provide information on the flu virus. 3 trials have been concluded with analysis from the last still being undertaken which is showing an initial positive impact.

CIVICare, a research project in development. If funded, will aim to increase vaccination rates by addressing barriers in access to vaccination by care home communities, including care home residents, family members, staff, and vaccination professionals. Building on our findings from FluCare, we are keen to hear from members of the care home community (owners, managers, and staff) and vaccination professionals to help inform our next steps.
