Social Care Institute for Excellence: collaborating and innovating in social care to improve lives
The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) is an independent social care charity working in partnership to collaborate and innovate to improve people’s lives – with national government, Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), local authorities, people with lived experience, providers, academics, foundations. Working across social care, health and related services such as housing, for adults and children, we contribute to the development and implementation of better care, support and safeguarding.
Exhibition Stand
Our Head of Safeguarding, Vijay Patel, and others from the team will be at the Care Show on our Exhibition Stand, N43, throughout the conference to share practical examples of SCIE’s impact and outline how we can work with care providers to anticipate and manage safeguarding risks through tailored, co-produced solutions, as well as our wider work.
We deliver four main offers, across all of which we support the DHSC annually: consultancy, expert training, evidence-based research and policy insights, and resources including guidance and toolkits.
Care providers are navigating a complex and changing social care landscape that is forcing them to think differently about safeguarding. We can support them through this to build confident, resilient safeguarding cultures. Our safeguarding team brings a rich breadth and depth of experience, supporting organisations from across every sector and every area of the UK. As we are not-for-profit, our safeguarding consultancy and training services offer exceptional value for money, and our income goes towards improving social care.
Our consultancy works involves working with teams across local government, care, health and housing, to identify and embed new ways of working.
In safeguarding, we partner with organisations to anticipate and manage safeguarding risks, with expert-led insights into improving practice or policy, tailored training and co-produced solutions built around people and pressures. We have successfully delivered several hundred projects over the last three years supporting organisations from Government departments and councils to health, care and support providers.
We offer analysis and improvement work to support organisations and partnerships to gain an independent view of their safeguarding systems and processes, covering audits, service and case reviews. We also help you learn from safeguarding incidents and assess current practice across both children and adults’ safeguarding.
With major programmes of social care, NHS and housing reform unfolding, our focus is to support this change and secure a more effective, efficient and safe future for social care. Alongside our focus on safeguarding, we will also be providing trusted expertise on wider social care issues in a keynote discussion.
Keynote discussion
Policy and practice: building the future of adult social care together
13.30-14.00, Keynote Stage, 8 October
Our Chair Baroness Thornton and our Head of Social Care Transformation and Improvement Ellie Haworth will explore how policy and practice must work together to turn ambition for adult social care into reality. Adult social care is at a pivotal moment. Major programmes of social care, NHS and housing reform create a rare opportunity to move beyond managing pressures and towards designing a more coherent, sustainable future.
The keynote will begin by setting out the current policy and reform landscape, examining how developments across social care, health and housing could shape the future of care and support. It will then explore the opportunities and challenges these changes present for the sector, drawing on leading social care charity SCIE's work across practice development and improvement to share insights from the frontline. As organisations adapt to new expectations and ways of working, leaders will need to support their teams to make changes in day-to-day practice and remain focused on what matters most to people who draw on care and support.
The keynote will consider how the sector can become more consistent, more equitable and more confident in its own potential, helping to deliver better outcomes for people and more effective and efficient services.
