We spoke with Twanny Zijlmans, manager of one of the homes who use Ziggys: “when you’re walking behind a wheelchair, it’s much harder to make contact. Especially with someone who already finds it a bit harder to understand things or experiences a lot of sensory input. With Ziggy, you really do feel a connection and have personal contact. It’s much more worthwhile for family, volunteers, neighbours and loved ones to pop round for a pleasant walk.”

Pictured above are Paula, care home resident, and her son, John. When John visits his mum for a cup of tea, they go out in the Ziggy in the garden. They take every possibility they have to chat about life. As John says, “You still have the chance to talk together about things that are important; there will come a time when that will no longer be possible”. For them, Ziggy makes it feel like they are going for a walk as they always used to. Normally, the wheelchair gets in the way of that.
